Joseph Morounfolu Agbedahunsi Ph.D, FRSC, KSM

 

Professor Agbedahunsi is a Research Professor of Phytomedicines.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Ibadan, Master and Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacognosy from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife.

Prof. Agbedahunsi specializes in the area of Pharmacognosy and Phytomedicine with special interest in drug discovery from medicinal plants for the management of Malaria, Sickle cell disorder and Alzheimer’s diseases. Particularly he has worked on the evaluation, isolation and characterization of new molecules. He had determined the biochemical parameters and toxicological properties of medicinal plants with proven bioactivities.

Prof. Agbedahunsi has published over fifty articles in international peer reviewed journals. He is a reviewer to many International Journals including Pharmaceutical Biology. He has supervised many undergraduate and postgraduate students which led to the award of Masters of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Phytomedicine and Pharmacology. He has served as external and internal examiners to many undergraduate and postgraduate examinations within and outside Nigeria. Professor Agbedahunsi had served as external assessor for Professorial Prima Facie cases within and outside Nigeria.  He has attended many local and international conferences where he delivered scholarly papers.

Prof. Agbedahunsi has won many international awards; these include the Life time leadership award by the Haggai Institute, Atlanta, USA in June 2001, and Research Board of Advisor to the American Biographical Institute in 2002. Twice (2003 and 2007) he won the Royal Society UK developing world study visit to Kings College London. In November 2010, he won the First Prize in Industrial Research at the 4th National University Research and Development organized by the National University Commission, Nigeria. He is the current Nigerian National Coordinator of the Western Africa Network of Natural Products Research Scientists (WANNPRES).

Prof. Agbedahunsi served as patron and adviser to many youth organizations such as National Fellowship of Christian Pharmacy students (NFCPS), Federation of Ekiti State Students’ Union of the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife and Catholic Youth Organization

Prof. Agbedahunsi is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) London, the Editor in Chief of Nigerian Journal of Natural Products and Medicine (NJNPM), and a former National Vice President of Nigerian Society of Pharmacognosy. He is a fourth degree Knight of St Mulumba (KSM) of the Roman Catholic Church and a Field Representative of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International (FGBMFI).
